General Notes

Each lesson is arranged with four components:

  1. Lesson outline: this is an outline of the key points in the lesson. Most of the lesson is composed of reading assignments from the web, so the outline is intended to draw the readings together as a cohesive lesson. For the most part, the outline is general and should serve as a study aid during your reading. When I couldn't find an article to adequately cover a topic, however, I added more explanation to the outline.
  2. Required reading: you will have a combination of reading from the required textbook and various articles on the web. This material should fill in the details of the lesson outline. By having you read materials outside of your textbook, I hope to expose you to the wealth of information available for developers on the Internet. Bookmark the sites you find helpful; you will use them often.
  3. Additional resources: these resources are not required reading, but they will probably help you understand the material in the lesson.
  4. Next step: the lesson will end with notes on which lessons and/or projects you should work on next.

After completing the lesson, you must take the corresponding on-line quiz. You will be given a random set of multiple choice questions drawn from the outline and required reading; you need to score 70% or better to pass. If you do not pass, please review the lesson and take the quiz again. You will have different questions on subsequent quizzes, however if you exhaust all of the questions in the database you will have to contact the instructor to restart the quizzes.

Remember to make use of the class forums and the chat room if you don't understand something!
