UNIX for Webmasters
Course description
Students entering this class will get a basic introduction
to operating in a UNIX environment. This course should prepare
students to be able to execute daily operations as a UNIX
webmaster such as copying, moving, deleting files; creating
directories; setting permissions and ownership; using the
grep and sed commands; using the vi editor; and more. Students
leaving this class will be able to do file operations determine
and change permissions issues, and analyze server and process
usage. (8 hours; hands on)
Prerequisites
General familiarity with the Internet and some other operating
system.

Because the primary framework for instruction is the Internet,
you must have convenient access to the Internet and your own
email account. You will use these to access instructional
materials, send email messages to the instructor, and participate
in online discussions. You will need the version 4 edition
(or better) of either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet
Explorer. Both are free for downloading and installation.
In addition, you must have shell access to a UNIX server for
class assignments.
