The focus of this course is to learn detailed anatomy of the heart and coronary arteries, as well as the heart valves. An overview of the physics, basic modes of ultrasound, and how to optimise images are taught. This course will add breadth of understanding to the use of clinical ultrasound and echocardiography.
Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA)
The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) is an international member organization with cardiac, thoracic and vascular anesthesiologists that promotes excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
The SCA have collaborated with iTeachU to deliver to its members the SCA-On-Cue (Online Clinical Ultrasound and Echocardiography) Level 1 and Level 2 Course to physicians around the world. These comprehensive courses offer echocardiography (TTE and TEE) and other uses of clinical ultrasound including vascular access, lung ultrasound, ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, FAST and DVT assessment. Also, SCA in conjunction with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and iTeachU have collaborated to deliver the Basic Perioperative TEE program. This training and accreditation program complies with the provisions set out by the National Board of Echocardiography.
Testimonials – Basic Perioperative TEE Program
“I finished residency over 15 years ago. This program has been one of the best educational opportunities I had the honor to be a part of since that time. Thank you. The chapter on hemodynamics is one of the best written chapters I’ve read in quite a long time-succinct, informative and practical.” – Dr Joe Arndt
“I must admit that when I was finally able to access the tutorials I found them very informative. The topics were presented in a very easy to understand and retain format. This was supported by the structure of the assessments. I had “fun” doing this course and learned a bit in the process. I really liked the fact all of the echo studies were not perfect. This certainly mimics real life in that either because of body habitus or viewing conditions we cannot always have perfect studies. Thank you for your help in getting this going. I would definitely recommend this course to others.” – Dr Steven Schmidt
SCA TTE Introduction & Case Interpretation Series 1
The first series introduces the student to basic transthoracic echocardiography. Tutorials show how to perform a transthoracic echocardiography examination, how to assess basic haemodynamic state, and how to use two-dimensional and colour flow Doppler modalities to identify significant valve disease.
SCA TTE Case Interpretation – Series 2
This course is one of several TTE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transthoracic echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TTE Case Interpretation – Series 3
This course is one of several TTE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transthoracic echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TTE Case Interpretation – Series 4
This course is one of several TTE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transthoracic echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TTE Case Interpretation – Series 5
This course is one of several TTE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transthoracic echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TTE Case Interpretation – Series 6
This course is one of several TTE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transthoracic echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA Ultrasound Guided Vascular Access
Ultrasound Guided Vascular Access covers the sonoanatomy and techniques to perform ultrasound-guided vascular access. Topics cover basic ultrasound guided vascular access techniques and covers central venous access including the internal jugular and axillary vein cannulation, peripheral upper limb arterial and venous access, and femoral arterial and venous access.
SCA Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia
The focus of this course is to teach the anatomy, sonographic appearance, and technique of performing a wide variety of ultrasound guided nerve blocks. Specific areas covered include upper limb blocks, lower limb blocks, blocks of peripheral nerves, abdominal and thoracic blocks, and how to perform continuous peripheral nerve blocks.
Ultrascan Lung Ultrasound
Train towards Individual Lung US and learn the anatomy, sonographic appearance, and technique of performing lung US, and ultrasound guided pleural drain insertion.
