This course introduces the participant to basic transesophageal echocardiography. Tutorials show how to perform a transesophageal echocardiography examination, how to assess basic haemodynamic state, and how to use two-dimensional and colour flow Doppler modalities to identify significant valve disease.
Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA)
The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) is an international member organization with cardiac, thoracic and vascular anesthesiologists that promotes excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
The SCA have collaborated with iTeachU to deliver to its members the SCA-On-Cue (Online Clinical Ultrasound and Echocardiography) Level 1 and Level 2 Course to physicians around the world. These comprehensive courses offer echocardiography (TTE and TEE) and other uses of clinical ultrasound including vascular access, lung ultrasound, ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, FAST and DVT assessment. Also, SCA in conjunction with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and iTeachU have collaborated to deliver the Basic Perioperative TEE program. This training and accreditation program complies with the provisions set out by the National Board of Echocardiography.
Testimonials – Basic Perioperative TEE Program
“I finished residency over 15 years ago. This program has been one of the best educational opportunities I had the honor to be a part of since that time. Thank you. The chapter on hemodynamics is one of the best written chapters I’ve read in quite a long time-succinct, informative and practical.” – Dr Joe Arndt
“I must admit that when I was finally able to access the tutorials I found them very informative. The topics were presented in a very easy to understand and retain format. This was supported by the structure of the assessments. I had “fun” doing this course and learned a bit in the process. I really liked the fact all of the echo studies were not perfect. This certainly mimics real life in that either because of body habitus or viewing conditions we cannot always have perfect studies. Thank you for your help in getting this going. I would definitely recommend this course to others.” – Dr Steven Schmidt
SCA TEE Case Interpretation – Series 2
This course is one of several TEE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transesophageal echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TEE Case Interpretation – Series 3
This course is one of several TEE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transesophageal echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA TEE Case Interpretation – Series 4
This course is one of several TEE case study series with a mix of pathology. Each of these series contains 10 transesophageal echocardiography case studies for participants to practise interpretation and reporting. These series do not have to be completed in order. Participants can choose any one or more series to study.
SCA Cardiac Ultrasound Doppler
The focus of this course is to understand how Doppler works, and how to apply it in a basic manner to assess ventricular function and valvular lesions.
SCA Assessment of Left Ventricular Systolic Function
This course focuses is on left ventricular systolic function. The course covers the basics of the cardiac cycle and left ventricular systolic function pathology. This is followed by a tutorial on how to measure left ventricular systolic function with echocardiography.
SCA Assessment of Right Ventricular Systolic Function
Impaired right ventricular function is a less common cause of haemodynamic instability in the perioperative and critical care setting, than left ventricular dysfunction, but often produces more severe consequences. The course focuses is on right ventricular systolic function. The course covers right ventricular systolic function pathology.
SCA Assessment of Diastolic Function
This course focuses on left ventricular diastolic function. The course starts with the estimation of left atrial pressure, followed by a tutorial on how to measure left ventricular diastolic function with echocardiography.
