The Aged Care course has been designed to provide General Practitioners with the knowledge and practical guidance on how to provide the necessary care to the elderly during the transition to care in aged care facilities.
The course has been structured into three subject areas.
Subject 1: A needs-based approach

- Communications and expectations
- Social isolation
- Lifelong Healthcare aged care management
- Admissions process
- Cognitive assessment
Subject 2: Common medical problems in aged care
Includes:
- Gynaecology in aged care
- Acute delirium and sedation
- Optimising hydration and nutrition
- Continence and bowel care
- Polypharmacy and deprescribing
- Falls in the elderly
- Analgesia in the elderly
- Wounds and infection control
- Skin conditions
- Substance abuse in aged care
- End of life care
Subject 3: Logistics issues associated with providing aged care service
Includes:
- Billing
- Medical records
- Certification of death
Delivery mode
The course is completely online. Students have the flexibility to study in their own time and location. Program materials can be accessed through the Education app on smartphones and tablets with iOS, Android or Windows systems. Once the program materials have been downloaded on smartphones and tablets, all the interactive media content can be viewed even when offline (however, internet access is required periodically to login or re-verify login credentials). Program materials can also be accessed online using a web browser.
